Gea 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-7(7), 6-7(3), 4-6 Van de Zandschulp
It’s all over on Grandstand! Botic van de Zandschulp is into the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open — and the glorious run of Arthur Gea comes to an end.
The 2021 quarterfinalist here, comes back from two sets down to win.
But you’ve got to feel for Gea. The Frenchman had a match point in the third-set tiebreak and was serving for the match in the fourth — all to become the first qualifying lucky loser to reach the quarterfinals in Grand Slam history.
Instead, the record reads 0-13. Maybe the 14th attempt to get over the hump, from whoever it comes, will be more successful.
